Combining Science and Soccer at the University of Portland

Dr. Terry Favero of the University of Portland is both an award winning Biology instructor and an internationally known researcher in the area exercise physiology. He also doubles as the Conditioning Coordinator for the two-time national championship women’s soccer team. He has also aided national teams and the regional Olympic Development Program. His years of involvement in both soccer and science have helped him develop a unique perspective into what it takes to maximize athletic performance on the pitch.

In the article linked below, Dr. Favero describes his philosophy towards soccer specific aerobic training. He also outlines some specific activities designed to maximize fitness while improving soccer performance. His programs are based on both scientific principles and field observations – a unique bridge between science and performance. They include sport-specific movement drills that lay the training foundation for the Pilot women’s soccer team.
